Review
Nero CD Speed reports that it reads CDR at 21x-48x and access time 107ms.
After 4x recorder the record speed is really (and obvious) impresses: it
writes 700M CDR for only 3 minutes. And unlike other models of recorders there
are no visible zones on CDR after writing.
By specification this drive supports CD-MRW (MtRainer). This new standard
extends UDF and allows to use CD-RW disks as diskettes. Contrary to the old UDF
format it does not require long formatting and uses smaller data blocks (faster
access, more space). Unfortunately many CD-RW drives (and official OS releases)
do not support this standard and you easily can get into situation when you
unable to write data on your CD-RW disk and to read data from it you had to
install special driver.
After year of using I found out that on my system CD-MRW no longer works,
what caused it - do not know. There are no information in the internet about
such a problem, so it seems only my problem.
Also it capable to read disks that other drives refuse to do. I have a
situation at work when a couple of CDRs written in other country with very
important information could not be read on any of the drives available (matshita,
toshiba) and I had to bring them home where TEAC read it easily.
Disks statistics:
- CDR TDK 48x - maximum reliable speed was 24x, at higher - errors, better
use smaller speed settings.
- CDR Intenso 32x - 24x - very good results.
- CD-RW 210M Dysan (SMC) High Speed - very unreliable writing :(, good
results only on 4x speed, but if you write the same disk on other drive
(e.g. at 12x), W548E reads it without any errors! Addition: if you lock
drive read speed on 16x it reads the disk again without any error, so it
seems that current firmware 1.05 has some errors, but unfortunately TEAC
forgot about this product :(
